National Railway Museum - Duchess of Hamilton Locomotive

The National Railway Museum in York, England is the largest railway museum in the world, responsible for the conservation and interpretation of the British national collection of historically significant railway vehicles and other artefacts. The Museum contains an unrivalled collection of locomotives, rolling stock, railway equipment, documents and records.

Built as a streamlined locomotive in 1938, Duchess of Hamilton is one of the most powerful steam locomotives ever to run on Britain's railways. One of 33 Princess Coronation class locomotives, it regularly ran at speeds in excess of 90mph, pulling West Coast Anglo Scottish expresses. These locomotives were robust, fast and could be said to represent the last word in British steam locomotive evolution.
