Guide and Virtual Tour of York: Treasurers House, Minster Yard York YO1 7JL.
Panorama | Review | Map
The Treasurer's House stands on Minster Yard between the Minster Close and Dean's Park. It is an excellent Jacobean Mansion which partly dates back to the reign of King Edward I, when it was occupied by the Treasurer of the Minster: the man in charge of the cathedral's silver and plate.
The house exhibits numerous architectural styles, an innovative yet confusing design set out under a late Victorian owner named Frank Green. Treasures include the beautiful Flemish Tapestries and early lavatories once used by King Edward VII! The cellars are infamous for their ghostly Roman soldiers!.
The Treasurer's House is owned and opened to the public by the National Trust.
